MSR Windburner and Jetboil Flash Comparision

Have you ever wondered which hiking stove to buy?

We have used the MSR Windburner for a number of years now, but people still rave over the Jetboil - so we brought one to see what all the fuss is about. We got the Jetboil Flash, which is equivalent to the MSR Windburner and put the two together to do a comparison video. We were surprised by the results.

The tests in the video were on equal ground - full gas cans of the same brand, same amounts of water, one test with no wind, one test in the wind. Overall the both used about the same amount of gas, but the time to boil was the difference. The MSR Windburner won that hands down. In defense of the Jetboil Flash though, we love the pizo lighter, the MSR Windburner still needs matches or a lighter to ignite it - which has been a pain in the wind.

So, hope this video has been of some use.

Javad : Very impressive and helpful content. Keep it up!
Dan Luna : The Jet has it's own lighter.
William Stayduhar : Thanks for at least doing this OUTSIDE and also using the lids.
My Jet Boil Flash boils water in about 1min 20 seconds everytime!
cRusty : I tend to love MSR but the entire line of wind burners and reactor stoves only cook in the pot or pan in the exact same space as the radiant heater is located. So making things like pancakes or pizza...anything in that category which will extend over the burner surface tends to get burnt while the outside rim is almost raw. It is most frustrating. I think Jetboil has a much nicer all around cook. Also, the Jetboil on average uses less fuel, except on windy days as you have clearly shown.
Tobias Collins : So I ended up buying the Windburner and love it. Just wanted to share this with everyone. I designed a simple support that can be used for pots and pans. And it's very steady. Check it out.
